    OUR STORY

    DLO Energy Skills Initiative (Pty) Ltd is a wholly black female owned and operated social enterprise focused on training, accelerating, and incubating entrepreneurs looking to access opportunities in the green economy. Our goal is to back local entrepreneurs and professional looking to access opportunities in the green economy as well as its associated infrastructure.

    As Africa and the global South transition to decarbonization, we want to ensure that no one is left behind.  Our goal is to ensure that African labour and business is not left behind in the Just Energy Transition.

    Our team has over 20 years experiences working in the energy sector, our skill set ranges from project development, project finance, financial modelling for energy and infrastructure projects, renewable energy legal advisory engineering, manufacturing and economic development. Our team has advised on, built, and funded some of Africa’s largest power and infrastructure projects.

    DLO Skills Initiative Training

    2025 Solar Panel Cleaning, Maintenance & Green Enterprise Training Programme

    What it is

    • A three-month accredited training programme called the Solar Panel Cleaning, Maintenance & Green Enterprise Training Programme. 

    • Targeted at 100 unemployed youth and township entrepreneurs, equipping them with technical and business skills relevant to the renewable energy sector.

    Key Components

    1. Technical training — hands-on instruction in solar panel cleaning, maintenance and fault detection.

    2. Enterprise development —  modules to help participants start green businesses, not just gain technical skills.

    Why it exists (Purpose)

    • To help address youth unemployment in South Africa, especially in townships and marginalized communities. 

    • To ensure that local people (young people, women) are included in the just energy transition so they can participate in, benefit from, and contribute to the growing renewable energy economy.

    Requirements / Who can apply

    • Applicants should be unemployed youth or entrepreneurs, aged 18-35, living in Gauteng.

    • Some academic minimums: matric certificate with at least Level 3 in Maths/Math Literacy and Level 3 in English. 

    Outcomes & Impact

    • Graduates gain practical, industry-relevant skills, making them employable in renewable energy projects or able to start their own “green” businesses. 

    • Aims to create local entrepreneurship, thereby multiplying job-creating potential.

    • Builds an alumni network for ongoing support, peer learning, and career advancement.
